Selvedge EDC Beads
Handmade in California by Tim Markel, the Selvedge EDC beads are the 105th shop-drop by the Orange County maker and the third CW drop to feature bronze. The word “selvedge” refers to the self-finished edge of raw denim, woven on shuttle looms to prevent fraying and signal a higher level of craftsmanship. The CW Selvedge beads are inspired by raw denim and the denim fading competition community, where wear, time, and personal use turn material into something uniquely earned.
The Selvedge beads are constructed from denim inspired linen Micarta by Vibe Composites, five lab opal segments, four bronze accent highlights, and two Skur Hyperglow layers. The lab opal segments are seated in a concave profile between radiused bronze layers. As the bead is rotated, the bronze maintains a consistent specular highlight, while the lab opal responds selectively to viewing angle, flaring with internal refraction and reflection at certain positions before settling back into a muted tone. The contrast between these two optical behaviors creates a shifting sense of depth and movement across the bead.
The Selvedge beads were fine-tuned to work perfectly on your standard 6mm spin-sticks/bead-caddies, or as a knife lanyard bead, or zipper-pull.
A total of 9 Selvedge beads were made, but only 8 are available through the shop-drop. There is a one-off (pictured in photo #5) that will be distributed at random. The one-off features Jeweler’s Blue Skur Hyperglow instead of standard Skur Blue Hyperglow.
